ZINA is preparing for the upcoming tomato industrial campaign, which starts right after the end of the Eid holidays (mid July 2016). This year, tomato production in our region is estimated at 300,000 tons, the same amount as the previous season.
The cultivation of tomato is of paramount importance, as it represents 35% of summer seasonal crops in the region and contributes 25% of national tomato production.
The importance of this agricultural activity is reflected in the number of transformation units in the region, reaching 14 factories functioning across Korba, Menzel Temime, Kelibia and El Haouaria. The reference price of fresh tomatoes increased by 13 % compared to last year, reaching 147 millimes/kg versus 130 millimes/kg in 2015.
